Introduction
Welcome to the Workpedia community! We're building something special together – a place where people can learn about remote work, discover job platforms, share experiences, and support each other on their career journeys.
To keep this community welcoming, respectful, and valuable for everyone, we ask that you follow these guidelines when participating in comments, discussions, or any community features on our site. These guidelines apply to all user interactions, whether on our website, social media channels, or any other Workpedia platform.
Our Community Vision
We believe that navigating the modern workplace is better together. The Workpedia community is a place where:
- Beginners feel welcome: No question is too basic. We all started somewhere. Everyone was new to remote work at some point.
- Experienced professionals share wisdom: Your experience can help someone just starting their career journey.
- Different perspectives are valued: There's more than one way to build a career. What works for one person may not work for another, and that's okay.
- Respect is non-negotiable: We disagree without being disagreeable. We challenge ideas, not people.
- Learning is the goal: Every interaction should leave us all a little more informed and empowered.
These guidelines exist to protect that vision and ensure everyone feels safe participating, regardless of their background, experience level, or career stage.
The Golden Rule
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Before you post, ask yourself:
- Would I say this to someone's face?
- Would I want my comment read aloud in a room full of people?
- Am I adding value, or just adding noise?
- Am I assuming good faith, or looking for a fight?
- Would I want my employer, family, or future colleagues to see this?
If the answer gives you pause, take a breath and reconsider. The internet is forever, and kindness costs nothing.
Be Respectful
Respectful disagreement is welcome. Disrespectful behavior is not. You can disagree with someone's opinion without attacking their character.
Do:
- Disagree with ideas, not people
- Explain your reasoning with evidence and examples
- Assume good faith – most people aren't trying to upset you
- Apologize if you unintentionally offend someone
- Give others the benefit of the doubt, especially beginners
- Acknowledge when someone makes a good point, even if you disagree overall
Don't:
- Attack, insult, or belittle others
- Use name-calling or personal attacks
- Dismiss someone's experience or perspective
- Be intentionally provocative ("trolling")
- Engage in prolonged arguments that add no value
- Use sarcasm to mock or demean others
Examples of unacceptable comments:
- "That's the dumbest thing I've ever read."
- "Only an idiot would use that platform."
- "You clearly don't know what you're talking about."
- "Your experience doesn't matter because [dismissive reason]."
Better ways to disagree:
- "I see it differently. Here's why..."
- "Have you considered this perspective?"
- "In my experience, that hasn't been true. Here's what happened..."
- "That platform didn't work for me because... What was your experience with it?"
Stay On Topic
Keep comments relevant to the article or discussion thread. This helps everyone find valuable information and keeps conversations focused.
Do:
- Comment on the article topic
- Ask related questions about the platform or term being discussed
- Share relevant experiences with the topic
- Provide useful additional information that complements the article
- Suggest related topics for future coverage
Don't:
- Go off on unrelated tangents
- Use comments to promote your unrelated agenda
- Hijack threads for your own purposes
- Post the same comment on multiple articles
- Bring up completely unrelated topics
If you want to discuss something off-topic, find or create an appropriate thread elsewhere. There are many forums and communities for general career discussion.
No Spam or Self-Promotion
Our community is for learning and discussion – not for selling. We want genuine conversations, not promotional content.
What's NOT allowed:
- Posting links to your own content (blog, YouTube, social media) without context
- Promoting businesses, products, or services
- Recruiting for affiliate programs
- Posting referral links
- Repeatedly promoting the same thing
- Dropping links without explanation
- DMing users with promotions (if that feature exists)
- Posting job listings (unless in a designated section, if available)
What IS allowed (in limited circumstances):
- Sharing a relevant resource that genuinely adds value to the discussion (not just self-promotion)
- Mentioning a platform you use, with clear disclosure if you have an affiliate relationship
- Answering a question with a link to a helpful resource (not your own)
- Sharing your experience with a platform, even if you have an affiliate link, as long as you disclose it
When in doubt: Ask yourself – am I sharing this to help, or to promote? If it's primarily promotional, don't post it. If you're genuinely trying to help, you're probably fine.
Be Honest and Transparent
Trust is the foundation of any community. Please be honest about who you are and what you're sharing.
Do:
- Use a consistent username (helps build reputation)
- Be transparent about conflicts of interest
- Disclose affiliate relationships if recommending products or platforms
- Share your experiences honestly – both positive and negative
- Acknowledge when you're sharing an opinion versus a fact
- Correct your mistakes when you realize you were wrong
Don't:
- Create fake accounts to support your arguments (sock puppeting)
- Pretend to be someone you're not
- Fail to disclose that you work for a platform you're recommending
- Share testimonials or results that aren't genuine
- Exaggerate your experience or qualifications
If you have a relationship with a platform or company mentioned in your comment, please disclose it. Example: "Full disclosure – I work for this company, but here's my honest opinion based on my experience..."
No Misinformation
Career information can have real consequences if it's wrong. Help us keep the community accurate and trustworthy.
Do:
- Share information you can verify from reliable sources
- Provide links to sources when possible
- Acknowledge when something is your opinion, not fact
- Correct your mistakes when you make them
- Ask questions if you're unsure about something
Don't:
- Share false or misleading information
- Spread conspiracy theories
- Make claims without evidence
- Promote "get rich quick" schemes or obvious scams
- Encourage dangerous career decisions
- Present personal opinions as established facts
If you see misinformation, respectfully correct it with evidence. Don't just attack the person – provide helpful context and sources.
Protect Privacy
Respect your privacy and others' privacy. The internet is public and permanent.
Do:
- Keep personal details vague when sharing your situation
- Use caution when discussing specific employers or platforms
- Share general experiences without identifying details
- Consider using a username that doesn't reveal your real name
Don't:
- Post personal information about yourself (address, phone, full name, account numbers)
- Post personal information about others (doxxing)
- Share private conversations without permission
- Encourage others to share private information
- Post confidential information about employers or platforms
Remember: Comments are public and permanent. Anyone can read them – including current and future employers, colleagues, and unfortunately, bad actors. Protect yourself and others.
No Hate Speech or Harassment
This is non-negotiable. We have zero tolerance for hate speech or harassment of any kind. Workpedia is a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of background.
We do not allow content that promotes or encourages:
- Racism, sexism, or discrimination based on protected characteristics
- Hatred or violence against individuals or groups
- Bullying, intimidation, or targeted harassment
- Stalking or unwanted attention
- Threats of violence or harm
- Xenophobia or religious intolerance
- Discrimination based on age, disability, or sexual orientation
Protected characteristics include (but are not limited to):
Race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
This applies to all users – whether they're regular community members, first-time commenters, or even the blog owner. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected.
No Illegal Content
Don't post anything illegal. This includes:
- Copyright-infringing material
- Instructions for illegal activities
- Promoting illegal drugs or substances
- Fraudulent schemes
- Child exploitation content (we will report to authorities)
- Terrorist or violent extremist content
- Content that violates platform terms of service
We cooperate with law enforcement when required. If it's illegal in most jurisdictions, it's not welcome here.
Discussing Platforms and Tools
Since Workpedia focuses on job platforms and remote work tools, discussions about specific platforms are common and encouraged. Here are some guidelines for these discussions:
Sharing Experiences
- Share both positive and negative experiences – balanced perspectives help everyone
- Be specific about what worked and what didn't
- Remember that your experience may not be universal
- Acknowledge when platforms have changed since your experience
Criticism
- Criticize the platform, not the people who use it
- Provide constructive feedback when possible
- Focus on facts and specific issues, not general attacks
- Remember that what doesn't work for you might work perfectly for someone else
Recommendations
- Recommend platforms based on your genuine experience
- Disclose any affiliate relationships
- Consider the person's situation when recommending – a platform good for one person may not be good for another
Moderation Practices
Our goal is to moderate as little as possible and as much as necessary. Here's how we approach moderation:
What We Moderate:
- Comments that violate these guidelines
- Spam and self-promotion
- Harassment and hate speech
- Misinformation that could cause harm
- Legal issues (copyright, illegal content)
- Personal attacks and abusive language
What We Don't Moderate:
- Respectful disagreement
- Different opinions about platforms or tools
- Criticism of the blog or content (respectfully expressed)
- Questions from beginners (we welcome all questions!)
Moderation Actions:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Edit | In rare cases, we may edit a comment to remove a violation while preserving the rest (e.g., removing a personal attack from an otherwise valuable comment). |
| Delete | Comments that violate guidelines may be deleted entirely. |
| Warning | First-time or minor violations may receive a warning via email or comment reply. |
| Temporary Ban | Repeated violations may result in temporary suspension (7-30 days). |
| Permanent Ban | Severe violations (hate speech, harassment, spam) may result in immediate permanent ban. |
Moderation is not always immediate. We're a small team, and we may not see violations right away. Please be patient and report issues rather than escalating conflicts.
Reporting Violations
If you see a comment that violates these guidelines, please report it. You help keep the community safe for everyone.
How to Report:
- Email: workpedia2026@gmail.com with "Community Report" in the subject line
- Contact form: Visit our Contact Us page
What to Include:
- Link to the specific comment or thread
- Brief description of the violation
- Any relevant context (screenshots if helpful)
- Your username (optional, but helpful for follow-up)
Do not:
- Engage with the violator – this often makes things worse
- Take moderation into your own hands
- Publicly call out the violator in comments
- Start a public debate about moderation decisions
We will review all reports and take appropriate action. We may not respond individually to every report, but we read them all and appreciate your help.
Consequences for Violations
We follow a progressive enforcement approach, but reserve the right to skip steps for severe violations.
| Violation Severity | Examples | Typical Consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Minor | Off-topic comment, mild incivility, accidental self-promotion | Comment removal + warning |
| Moderate | Repeated minor violations, disrespectful behavior, spam | Temporary ban (7-30 days) |
| Severe | Hate speech, harassment, illegal content, threats | Immediate permanent ban |
Note: These are guidelines, not rigid rules. We consider context, intent, and history when making moderation decisions. Multiple minor violations may be treated as a moderate violation.
We also consider whether a user is contributing positively in other ways. Someone who is generally helpful but occasionally steps over the line will be treated differently than someone who only posts violations.
Appeals Process
We're human, and we sometimes make mistakes. If you believe your comment was removed unfairly or you were banned in error, you can appeal.
How to Appeal:
- Email us at workpedia2026@gmail.com with "Appeal" in the subject line
- Include your username and the content that was moderated
- Explain why you believe the moderation was incorrect
- Be respectful in your appeal – aggression will not help your case
What We Consider:
- The specific comment and context
- Our guidelines and whether they were actually violated
- Your history in the community
- Any new information we didn't have initially
- The overall spirit of your contribution
We will review appeals within 7-10 business days. The decision on appeal is final.
Please note: Repeated frivolous appeals may be ignored. If we uphold the moderation, further appeals on the same issue will not be considered.
